Kodu and Makey Makey - Coding and Design

  

November's Technology Camp focused on coding video camps through the program Kodu.  Students were given freedom to move through the tutorials and create a video game using the video game design template.  Those that completed a game were then able to use the campus Makey Makey kits to design controllers for their game.   Twenty one students attended this camp and almost all were able to complete the video game program in this short time.   The next technology camp will be held in December and will be focused on how to use MinecraftEdu to build.

Students Developing Apps

Last week students attended a week-long, before school camp where they began learning how to create apps for mobile devices with the help of the MIT App Inventor website.  Students worked through a series of tutorials that taught the skills and strategies needed to begin designing their own apps.   They were very excited to try out their newly developed program on the tablet and see their code in action.

Super Scratch Camp 2012

Today marked the last day of Super Scratch Technology Camp.  For the past week students gathered each morning at 7:40am to learn how to program video games using a program from MIT - Scratch.  

Students learned to add elements, control those elements and finally have a game that others can play through the Scratch website.

This camp was run by the campus ITS, Robin Young.

SumoBots Invade Ridgeview

Each year students are offered a variety of technology camps to attend in the morning to learn new skills.  The first one this year included creating a Lego NXT robot that could stay in a ring and be able to push out their opponents.  The 2011 Sumobot Camp attracted 25 students who met each morning for a week to build and program an original robot.   Matches were held on Friday and the results can been seen in the video.
